Cercivento

CERCIVENTO

In friulian "Çurçuvint".
An alpine municipality in Carnia, located at the confluence of Valcalda with the Bût Valley. Important transit in Roman times, then a Lombard stronghold, in 1338 the parish of San Martino was founded here, dependent on the archdeaconry of Gorto: a rather strange fact, since all neighboring villages are under the archdeaconry of San Pietro. Between the late 16th and 18th centuries, Cercivento experienced perhaps the most flourishing period of its history because the most beautiful houses, such as Citars, Tiridin, Morassi, Vezzi, and Pitt, were built. Also noteworthy is the Farie dal Checo, an ancient blacksmith workshop fully restored.
