Flaibano

FLAIBANO

In friulian "Flaiban".

The municipality is located in central Friuli, in the upper Friulian plain. The main watercourse is the Tagliamento River, which marks the western boundary of the municipal territory, where the Tagliamento Park is located. Various remains from the Roman era, such as villas and deposits, are present. The name derives from Flavianus, a Roman who founded the village shortly after the foundation of Aquileia. Numerous buildings of high artistic value preserve important artistic examples by notable Friulian painters and stonemasons within the municipality. Also noteworthy is Villa Marangoni Masolini in San Odorico, located at short distance from the Tagliamento gravel banks. Once a Benedictine friar’s property, it became a guesthouse in 1594 by order of Patriarch Francesco Barbaro. The church of San Giovanni Battista and the chapel of San Odorico are also worthy of attention.
