Lusevera

LUSEVERA

In friulian "Lusèvare".

According to an ancient local tradition, the name seems to derive from a statement by Julius Caesar, who stayed in a hamlet still called Cesariis and who baptized some houses in the village Lux vera because they appeared illuminated by the sun.

The municipality of Lusevera occupies the entire upper valley of the Torre River, and a dialect belonging to the Slavic current is still spoken here, as Avar and later Slavic tribes arrived here in the 6th century.

In the hamlet of Villanova, there are three caves of significant speleological and tourist interest, extending for more than 7 km. The Grotta Nuova is the largest in Italy and can be visited with guided tours from March to November.

The road that climbs to Musi, then Tanamea Pass, and descends to Uccea and the crossing with Slovenia is suggestive.
