Andy Irvine
Irlanda
One of Ireland’s greatest singers, embodying the soul of Ireland. Renowned for over fifty-five years, he is a pioneer of world music, revered by musicians globally. He led legendary groups such as Sweeney’s Men in the mid-1960s, followed by the enormous success of Planxty in the 1970s, and later Patrick Street, Mozaik, LAPD, and, more recently, Usher’s Island. As a solo artist, Andy embodies the archetype of the troubadour with a perpetually nomadic performance and lifestyle, much like one of his great inspirations, Woody Guthrie . The Irish Times states that he is “often copied, never equaled.” His vast repertoire includes traditional Irish songs, Balkan melodies, and his own compositions.
