BARABAN

BARABAN – Love songs, dances and war songs

One of the most representative groups of the Italian folk scene, appreciated in Europe and America, Barabàn has developed a path that revisits the musical tradition of northern Italy with a contemporary language and sensitivity.

Founded in Milan in 1982 by Vincenzo Caglioti, Aurelio Citelli, Giuliano Grasso and Guido Montaldo – among the most active Italian researchers and musicians – the ensemble mixes melodies, languages, rhythms and sounds from northern Italy, popular and contemporary instruments, polyphonies from the Po Valley, music related to Italian emigration to the Americas, contemporary lyrics, archaic songs from the Apennines, swing and Yiddish music.

Line-up:
Vincenzo Caglioti – organetti accordions, bandoneon, cori; Aurelio Citelli – voce solista, tastiere, bouzouky, ghironda; Giuliano Grasso – violino, ocarina, cori; Paolo Ronzio – cornamuse, chitarra, bouzouky, autoharp, ocarina, jaleika, voce; Maddalena Soler – voce solista, violino.
