YARÁKÄ

Apulia (Italy)

The Curannera was the healer, a woman of the people who practiced folk medicine capable of curing everything from sore throats to headaches, from dislocations to irregularities in women’s biological cycles, through various practices and frequently resorting at the same time to natural science using herbs, stones, and amulets. Today she becomes the inspiring muse of Yarákä, the perfect bridge between heaven and earth and between seemingly distant cultures, exorcising evil through storytelling, in a continuous dialogue between ethnomusicological research materials and more modern expressions. Winners of the Alberto Cesa 2024 Award, they return this year to Folkest as special guests for the final evenings.
