Ars Antiqua World Jazz Ensemble
Italia
The music of this ensemble stems from a decade-long personal research by Roberto Manuzzi, a professor at the Frescobaldi Conservatory in Ferrara, into the folk music of the Mediterranean. He studied the cultural melting pot characteristics of the early Middle Ages, a world much more lively and multicultural than we are used to thinking. Manuzzi has particularly delved into the texts of Giacomo (Jacopo) da Lentini, identified by historians as the inventor of the sonnet form. The splendid voice of Rachele Amore completes and defines the ensemble’s sound, thanks also to her deep roots in Sicilian folk music. It’s no coincidence that Rachele Amore, the ensemble’s lead singer, is originally from Lentini.
