Pinzano al Tagliamento

PINZANO AL TAGLIAMENTO

In friulian "Pinçan al Taiament".

The town is known for the bridge over the Tagliamento River, from which there is a spectacular view of the riverbed and the surrounding gentle landscapes. Blown up during World War I by retreating Italians after the disaster of Kobarid and rebuilt after the war. Severely damaged by the 1966 flood, it was demolished and rebuilt with a single arch, compared to the previous three.

Pinzano is a predial place name, dating back to the Roman era, indicating that this area, where a village probably already existed, was granted to a colonist named Pincius. The specification al Tagliamento was added with the Royal Decree No. 3893 on August 18th, 1867. The toponyms Valeriano and, probably, Ampiano in the municipality also have predial origins.
