Ronchi dei Legionari

RONCHI DEI LEGIONARI

In friulian "Roncjis di Monfalcon".

The town is one of the municipalities located in the dialectal area of Bisiacaria, the area between the Isonzo and Timavo rivers and includes the portion between the Karst and the Adriatic.

The origins of the name are documented as early as 1229 in the Friulian form Ronches. Until 1925 it was called Ronchi di Monfalcone. Its current name is due to Gabriele D’Annunzio‘s legionnaires, who set off from here on September 12th, 1919 (the march of Ronchi), initiating the Fiume enterprise.
